How many of you have a Facebook account? How many of you have your mobile number and Home Address being filled in your profile? And how blindly you click “allow” for third party apps to access your account information? I bet most users dont even think about the consequences when clicking the “Allow” button.
Facebook keeps changing your privacy settings on its own. Many of you may remember sometime back when Facebook had to backtrack when many people started deleting their account after some one way privacy changes by facebook. Here comes another one.
Just 3-4 days back, Facebook allowed Third party apps to access your Mobile numbers and Home address in addition to data already being accessed by apps. Just see the screenshot and second entry in it which talks about your current address and Mobile Phone number.
As far as I know, most of you are not comfortable with sharing your Mobile number and Home address with any third party app or even anyone else on the web. This can be misused by any scammer to get your home address and mobile number by fooling you to click allow on any app.
For the time being, it looks like facebook has suspended this feature after users getting outraged over it. Here is a quote from their next blog post.
Over the weekend, we got some useful feedback that we could make people more clearly aware of when they are granting access to this data. We agree, and we are making changes to help ensure you only share this information when you intend to do so. We’ll be working to launch these updates as soon as possible, and will be temporarily disabling this feature until those changes are ready. We look forward to re-enabling this improved feature in the next few weeks.
As we can see from the above statement, it is temporary and they do plan to enable this feature soon. So I would advise Facebook users to delete their Mobile numbers and Home address from their account if they do not want to delete or deactivate their facebook account.
