In my last two posts I talked about some of the best FREE Antivirus and Anti-Rootkit tools available to protect your computer. Apart from these two categories of Viruses and Rootkits , there is a third one which infects your system just like above two. I am talking about Spywares and adwares here. The tools available to detect and remove them are both paid ones and free ones. Today i will talk about some of the best free Anti Malware or Spyware tools to protect your Computer
What is Malware and Spyware
Malicious software in short Malware is hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code infecting your system without being detected trying to steal info from your system or hack it or use it for some illegal activities like phishing or spamming etc. doing Malware includes viruses, worms, trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, crimeware and other malicious and unwanted software.
It is developed by well known Lavasoft. It is one of the best tool available against Malware providing real-time protection, a rootkit removal system, automatic updates, and more protecting you online from malwares.
This is another great tool. Spybot – Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware. It works just like Ad-Aware free but normally its recommended to use Both Spybot S &D and Ad-Aware Free one by one together to remove all the threats.
Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus
This special edition of Spyware doctor comes free with Google pack. It Protects your PC with advanced anti-virus detection and removal, Detects and removes spyware, adware, trojans and keyloggers. It doesn’t provide a real time scan feature but the detection and removal rate is great.
This tool is developed by Javacoolsoftware. It prevents installation of ActiveX-based spyware and other potentially unwanted programs, Block spying / tracking via cookies, restrict the actions of potentially unwanted or dangerous web sites.
Free version doesn’t include a auto update feature. But that’s not a big issue as you can use it to remove malicious stuff easily even without auto updates.
Trend Micro HijackThis is a free utility that generates an in depth report of registry and file settings from your computer. It is a tool for advanced users only who know what they are doing as this does not tell you what is good or bad. In addition to this scan and remove capability HijackThis comes with several tools useful in manually removing malware from a computer.
Microsoft Windows Defender
This tool is provided by Microsoft and in built right inside the Windows operating system (Wince Windows Vista). It does provide a good enough malware detection and removal rates. It provides Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it’s detected, minimizes interruptions.
It is one of good tools developed by EMSI Software using a combination of two world class scanners products – the a-squared Anti-Spyware, and the Ikarus Anti-Virus engine both having cutting edge in Malware detection making the detection and removal rate good. It removes all infections and hence restore your PC to maximum performance..

Spyware Blaster never remove anything nor heal already infected files. It is there to prevent future internet based malware attacks, by blocking malicious websites and cookies. It don’t remove malicious stuff Avinash. Really great list of useful tools but you forgot to mention Super Antispyware Avinash. It is also a great tool, much better than Ad-aware I think.

Yeah, Malware bytes is very popular and has received good reviews.
Also, Super Antispyware works great. You must add both to this list.

There is a reason SpywareBlaster doesn’t remove or repair, because…. it doesn’t. What it DOES do, is put up a barrier of protection to begin with from certian threats so they don’t get there to begin with. Protection doesn’t have to be loud to do a job ;)
I also want to mention SpywareTerminator. While it had a bad reputation in the past, owned by other people, it was in itself a threat, since then and it’s been a couple of years now, they are legit and have been varified by numerous security sites. On to point, it is an excellent security software in my opinion and runs well and worth looking into.
Yeah, SpywareBlaster is for prevention only. But we all know that,
So, SpywareBlaster is a must in my opinion.

May be due to that bad reputation, i may have missed spyware terminator. Thanks for the info though i haven’t tested it myself.

Thanks for the info. Is it possible to see analysis of these soft-wares from a ‘dummy’s’ perspective?
Like how about a table with characterizations in a tabular format with ‘pros’ or ‘cons’ or scaled ‘++++’ or ‘++’ or ‘-’ etc.
