Amazon has raised prices across its own hardware line — Echo, Kindle, Fire TV and eero — and it did so overnight, with no announcement, blaming the cost of memory chips. The increases were spotted in a review of Amazon’s US listings by Fortune on 21 August, and the company has confirmed them. Ring products were left untouched.

What the Amazon device price increase actually looks like

These are the confirmed US figures, old price to new:

  • Echo Dot (base model) — $49.99 to $79.99, a 60% jump
  • Echo Show 11 — $219.99 to $249.99
  • Kindle, 16GB — $109.99 to $149.99
  • Kindle Paperwhite, 16GB — $159.99 to $199.99
  • Fire TV Stick HD — $34.99 to $39.99
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max — $59.99 to $84.99
  • eero 7 mesh system — $349.99 to $399.99
  • eero Pro 7 — $699.99 to $799.99

An Amazon spokeswoman confirmed the increases to Fortune, saying the consumer electronics industry is “facing significant increases in memory and storage component costs. After absorbing these increases for as long as we could, we recently adjusted pricing across our product lines.” She added that Amazon still aims to keep products affordable and will run promotions through the year.

Does this hit India prices?

Not confirmed. As of 22 August, only Amazon’s US listings have been shown to have moved, and the company has not announced any India pricing change. Amazon India’s own launch announcements put the Fire TV Stick HD at ₹4,999 and the Echo Show 11 range from ₹23,999 at the time of launch — those are launch figures, not a current-price guarantee, and Indian street prices have moved around them since.

That said, the cost pressure driving this is global, not American. Every hardware maker is buying DRAM and NAND from the same squeezed supply, and India has already seen it work through RAM, SSD and laptop prices through 2026; Amazon has spent the same period pushing Alexa+ onto Fire TV owners at no extra charge, which makes the hardware markup easier to read. Apple raised Mac and iPad prices in June for the same reason; Microsoft has said it will raise Xbox console prices by $100 to $150 and stop selling its 2TB configuration; Dell, HP, Lenovo and Asus have all either raised prices or quietly cut the amount of memory in their machines. If you are planning to buy an Echo, a Kindle or a Fire TV Stick in India, treat the current ₹ price as the good one rather than the floor.

The part Amazon isn’t saying out loud

The component-cost explanation is real — this genuinely is not invented margin. But look at where the increases land hardest in percentage terms: the base Echo Dot (+60%) and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (+42%). These are the cheap, high-volume devices Amazon sells close to cost precisely because they pay for themselves later, through Prime subscriptions, Alexa shopping and the sponsored rows that occupy the Fire TV home screen. A streaming stick that still shows you ads after you have bought it going up 42% overnight, with no notice and no announcement, is a straightforwardly worse deal than it was two days ago — and a promise of promotions is not a price cut, it is a discount off a number Amazon just moved.

If you have a device sitting in a cart or on a wishlist, check the price before you assume it is what you last saw. And if you are shopping for a mesh router or an e-reader in the next few months, the honest advice is the same as it has been all year: buy the capacity you need now, because nothing about memory supply is getting cheaper soon.
