How many of you use any tool for managing your day to day tasks, to do lists etc? I bet the answer will be NO from majority of you. I do use Gmail’s Task Manager to manage some stuff for me everyday but I am still in search of good Task and To Do List Manager or tool. Today we will talk about such Free Task and To Do List Manager named as Task Coach developed under GPL license and free to use.

Develoers Description:

Task Coach is a complete To-Do list application that enables you to manage all your upcoming task, ongoing projects and important events. You can create simple To-Do lists as well as complex task structure with optional subtasks, list of efforts made and partial task completions. The program is highly customizable and allows you to view and sort your list of tasks by a wide range of available column headers.

You can also mark tasks with custom colors, fonts and icons, filter your task list by category, and optionally attach files or documents to a task item. Other features include support for task related budgets and revenues, recurring events, reminder alarms, tracking of time spent on a task, custom categories, import/export and more.

Features

Task Coach currently (1.2.7) has the following features:

  • Creating, editing, and deleting tasks and subtasks.
  • Tasks have a subject, description, priority, start date, due date, a completion date and an optional reminder. Tasks can recur on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
  • Tasks can be viewed as a list or as a tree.
  • Tasks can be sorted by all task attributes, e.g. subject, budget, budget left, due date, etc.
  • Several filters to e.g. hide completed tasks or view only tasks that are due today.
  • Tasks can be created by dragging an e-mail message from Outlook or Thunderbird onto a task viewer.
  • Attachments can be added to tasks, notes, and categories by dragging and dropping files, e-mail messages from Outlook or Thunderbird, or URL’s onto a task, note or category.
  • Task status depends on its subtask and vice versa. E.g. if you mark the last uncompleted subtask as completed, the parent task is automatically marked as completed too.
  • Tasks and notes can be assigned to user-defined categories.
  • Settings are persistent and saved automatically. The last opened file is loaded automatically when starting Task Coach.
  • Tracking time spent on tasks. Tasks can have a budget. Time spent can be viewed by individual effort period, by day, by week, and by month.
  • The Task Coach file format (.tsk) is XML.
  • Tasks, notes, effort, and categories can be exported to HTML and CSV (Comma separated format). Effort can be exported to iCalendar/ICS format as well.
  • Tasks, effort, notes, and categories can be printed. When printing, Task Coach prints the information that is visible in the current view, including any filters and sort order.
  • Task Coach can be run from a removable medium.

The installation was smooth just like any other windows application. As I have not tested any other to do list or task management utility, hence I wont be able to compare it with others. But the tool looks great and simple except for one fact that it got all icons by default with no text beside the icons. So it may confuse you initially.

It got loads of options and everything can be customised to the extent you meed.

This great to do list is available even for Iphone and IPad. Use it on your Iphone and IPad if you got one.
