If you are looking for a password manager that can generate secure passwords, works with many browsers, and comes in a portable version? Look no further, for Sticky Password can do that and more.

Encyrpted Database:
Sticky Password stores all your information in an encrypted database locked with your Master Password. If you forget the master password, you cannot access the database or make changes to it.

Authorization Methods:
By default, Sticky Password unlocks your database with a Master Password that you choose. But you can also use a USB device or a Bluetooth device, connecting to the computer with the device will unlock the database.

Let’s take a look at the main features:
(Sorry but I am not going to explain what a password manager does or how do I use it for basic functions like logging into my account.)

The Tray Icon:

Sticky Password’s Tray Icon provides you access to all the settings of the program as well as options to edit your Identities, Manage the password database etc. It is the control panel of Sticky Password.

So most of the features that I am gonna talk about can be accessed by right clicking on the Tray Icon and choosing the appropriate menu item.

Identities and Form-filling:
You can create an identity with your personal details. The next time you want you sign up for a web service you can use the identity and presto, it automatically fills up the form. Saves precious time and mouse clicks. :p

Supported browsers and applications:
Sticky Password can work with several browsers and applications such as FireFox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Yahoo Messenger Skype, etc,. The full list of supported apps/browsers can be found here: http://www.stickypassword.com/support/browsers-application. I tested it with the latest version of Firefox 9.0.1 and it works flawlessly.

Virtual Keyboard:
If you are worried about keyloggers, you could use this virtual keyboard to protect your login info.

There is also an Anti-spy method which shows several cursors like the one you are using. As you hover the mouse over a key, the duplicate cursors move on different keys, thus confusing anyone who may be spying on you.

Well, it confused even me 🙂 Antispy can be disabled from the General settings menu.

Note: Be advised that this is not a anti-keylogger program, this is just a precautionary method to protect your login info.

Export and Import your Password Database:

Sticky Password can import your password database from popular password managers like Roboform, LastPass, Keepass and from the integrated password managers in Firefox and Internet Explorer.

I am using Sticky Password as a backup to my LastPass Database and it imported the database easily, while offering to  replace modified ones.

Backup and Restore:

Sticky Password creates automatic backups of your password database when you modify it, so in case you lose some login infromation you can restore a back from the “Manage Database” option.

Password tools:

Sticky Password has a built-in password gauge, which analyses the strength of your passwords.

It also comes with a password generator which can generate secure passwords for your accounts. It also has an option to clear your clipboard automatically after a defined time, the default is 30 seconds. This is useful incase you copy a password and paste it to login to a website.

Caution: If you use a clipboard manager, make sure you delete the password you copied, because they are designed to allow access to your older clipboard contents.

Secure Memos:
You can also store your important information like Credit Card details, Driver’s License, etc., securely with this option. I didn’t test this much as I really didn’t have the need to store such information.

Caution:
Make sure that you have enabled the Master Password option during startup. It is enabled by default, but there is no harm in making sure that it isn’t disabled.

You can do so by checking the Authorization method menu. Otherwise, anyone who has access to your computer can view/edit your database.

Portable version:

Sticky Password comes in a portable version as well. You can also synchronise your database wth the portable version on your USB thumb drive. That’s handy if you like to take all your logins with you and need to remember just one master password.

Sticky Password for iPhone:

If you are an iPhone user, you can benefit from the iPhone app that is free for users of Sticy Password Pro. However you cannot edit your database using the current version.

While browsing their forum, I read that an Android version is in the works 😉

Pros:

  • Free version available.
  • Supports many browsers.
  • Good virtual keyboard + anti-spy mode.
  • Easy way to Import/Export passwords from other password managers.
