As most of you already know that Microsoft has released its Windows 8 Developer preview edition and is available for download to everyone who wants to give it a try. You need to download the ISO image file and burn it on a DVD to install it on a physical hard drive. You can even install it using the virtual Machine tools like VMWare or Virtualbox on your existing system.

Sometime, we dont want to use a DVD for burning the ISO images and use a USB flash drive instead for various reason. In this post, we will talk about how to create a bootable USB flash drive to install Windows 8 on your System.

First you need to download Windows 8 Developer preview ISO image from Microsoft servers. To convert or transfer this ISO image to a USB device, you need to download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool from the Microsoft Store.

Insert your USB Flash drive and run the USB/DVD tool . You need to browse and select the Windows 8 Image file which you have downloaded.

After clicking next, just select the USB button in next window instead of DVD. After that another window comes which basically ask you to insert a USB drive. If you have already inserted a USB drive, it will be visible. If your device is not displayed, click refresh.

After you click “Begin Copying”, it will start doing the process of making it bootable. Keep in mind, any data on your USB drive will be erased as the USB drive needs to be formatted. The tool will display a warning message telling you this if you have any data on the USB drive. This whole process will take 5-10 minutes to complete.

After it is finished, now you can use your USB Flash drive as a bootable device for installing Windows 8 and you need not burn a DVD.
