Infolinks got Infected? Kaspersky thinks so

by Avinash on January 4, 2010 in Internet

Few minutes back, i was just navigating m blog Avinashtech as usual and suddenly i found some notification near the task bar by Kaspersky that it blocked some portion of my website page from loading as it suspected some trojan downloader. Instantly i got worried and clicked on the detailed report which showed me something which i didn’t expected.

Here’s what my Kaspersky Internet security notified me when it blocked something on Avinashtech. It showed me that the trojan downloader it suspects is coming due to javascript used by Infolinks. Something similar happened with adsense too few weeks back.

Kaspersky thinks soThen i thought may be its just my site problem, so i opened some other blogs too with “Infolinks” embedded in them, I found the same notification by Kaspersky. The detailed report in Kaspersky tells that alleged infected portion is from Infolinks javascript.

Infolinks is one of leaders of In-Text Advertising,  providing relevant in-text advertising links inside websites and blogs. The double line below many words on my blog you may have noticed is due to Infolinks.

I don’t know why the error is coming and hence i removed the Infolinks code from my blog right now . The message from Kaspersky is clean now with no infection or trojan notification coming from Kaspersky on my blog.

I hope, Infolinks sorts out this issue soon.

Update :-

I just received a mail and a comment from Infolinks represntative Emily. The issue is sorted out and even i have put back Infolinks on my blog.

It has come to our attention that you can shown some concern regarding the latest message from Kaspersky. You can be sure we were very much alarmed as well.

It seems that Kaspersky has mistakenly identified a few characters in our packed Javascript to be similar to a certain trojan virus. Our tech team have made the required changes to avoid this mistake.

Just to be very clear about this: This was a mistake that has nothing to do with Infolinks. Infolinks is not related to any virus, not affected by a virus, and this mistake by Kaspersky seems to be behind us (it took just a couple of hours).

nfolinks presents the next generation of In-Text Advertising, leading the industry with the most relevant in-text advertising links

Yep, FPs happen and a couple of good security sites will handle it ASAP. Avira is one as well that is immediate to handle an FP. Kaspersky is another. Of course there are quite a few more that are very quick on the draw too, that’s a good thing for sure.

Glad everything is sorted :)
