It seems Facebook is adding some new Privacy controls after it faced criticism over the recent Privacy policy changes and some changes with the default settings making them more visible to public by default unless you change it.

Just today , I found a new privacy Control box just at the place you share anything on facebook. When you try to share something, A new facebook Privacy control box appears just beside ” Share ” Button which lets you decide who can see what you are going to share.
By default, The option of “only friends ” is selected, but you can select Everyone or Friends of friends option too. If you are more choosy, You can try ” Customise ” Option, which lets you filter people who can see what you share.
When You click advanced, You can choose who can see what you shared. Also, you can select people or your friends from whom the Shared stuff will be hidden.

It looks a great feature atleast to me and I hope many of you will like this too.
I would like to hear from you guys, the feedback about this feature in particular and other privacy features in general too.

But hope I can pull some more freebies for you guys soon.
Well, honestly I don’t use facebook and I guess a rule of thumb for all users, if you don’t want people to know your private information, DON’T PUT IT ON THE INTERNET. It’s a harsh but true statement unfortunately and while Facebook didn’t do the right thing, they do have a right to run it how they see fit and as far as users go, I would have taken this as a learning experience and not trust a website like Facebook to keep my information private. That said, it’s at least good that they changed it as I’m sure they don’t want to lose users, but going back to the fact, don’t trust sites to keep your info private.
*** if you don’t want people to know your private information, DON’T PUT IT ON THE INTERNET ***
Yup i agree with you on this. The problem is most users are ignorant about privacy issues and they don’t know how bad it is if the info is accessible to everyone else.
And you bring up a good point. I would like to say, we were all ignorant to privacy online at one time for sure and it’s a learning process and in some ways I can’t blame them for being ignorant to this as people are usually shown the brighter side, the ease of use, and are shown through advertising and other means that computers and internet are simply there to use and are never told about the other aspects of what can happen online or off. This is where blogs like this come in extremely handy, people read a lot of blogs these days and throwing in security tips, options, software give them at least a hint of insight or eye opening read letting them know they may not be so safe.
And to keep to topic, Facebook is obviously great for a lot of users to keep in contact or make friends online and whether or not people know about security, etc… I do in some regard feel Facebook has at least some moral responsibility to keep users’ information somewhat protected which it seems like they did. We risk our privacy just by going online so really, unless we want to give up using the internet, we have to risk a bit but the risks can be put to a minimum. I think that is what FB did here by giving that option which may still be unsecure but better than just throwing it out to the world. And lastly, yep, it boils down to an educated user protecting themselves.
