Whether you like them or not, often you need to download files from file hosting services like Rapidshare, Megaupload, Hotfile, netload and many more. All these file hosting services are used by users all across the web to transfer big files easily. But all this is not hassle free.

All these services impose a lot of restrictions on its users until you got a premium account with them which obviously costs you money. Restrictions on free users range from a Captcha entering, Waiting time, No download manager support and very less slot available to free users to download along with less slot for countries like India and many others.

So whats the solution for Free users? Cryptload can be a great tool for Free users (even premium users too), even though it wont let you bypass all those restrictions. Some of its features are :

  • Downloading from One-Click-Hosters

  • Intelligent download management
  • Parallel downloads
  • Part downloading
  • automatic router-reconnect
  • Files are ordered in packages
  • Supporting CCF, DLC and RSDF container files
  • Captcha recgonition
  • Integrated Update-System
  • Clipboard monitoring for fast link adding
  • Possibility to shutdown the computer after downloads are finished

Cryptload lets you add as many URLs you like just by copying or pasting them in a notepad or from your clip board automatically. It starts downloading them automatically. It even puts captcha on its own. Just keep in mind , it wont bypass the time limits imposed by File Hosting services.

You can just add those files and let it do its work on its own. Whenever slot gets free or download is available , it will start downloading. It will also take care of time limit between downloads of two consecutive files.

Thanks for the information on this, however, I would like to mention that twice the link took me to an ad site then finally Rapidshare. I have been waiting over an hour and still can’t download it so I went here….

A note: When extracting the files I got a virus warning from the link I gave, so finally got the Rapidshare download and got the same thing, virus alert. The original files were packed with a virus from what I’ve read and it states to be careful where you get it.
Now, that said, it’s very possible it’s a false positive due to the way it works but I don’t have the time at the moment to find out. For now, I will leave it and do some more reasearch on it. Just thought I’d let others know in case they get the warning too.

Ok, did some scans and went to virus total. The results were…
Result: 29/41 (70.73%)
Found it unwanted, harmful, etc…
Now, I did read on the forums about this, that is, any sites including CryptLoad that were not malicious and quite a few were, but most of the answers by them were , get a decent anit virus, if you don’t like it, don’t use it, just allow it and let it go, etc… So that said, yes, it is likely a false positive, however, I don’t like the attitudes over the situation from the places I just read and just personally, I don’t trust it regardless. That doesn’t mean it should not be used etc… just my opinion.

PCHammer, I have been using it often. I expect this to produce some alerts from Antivirus solutions the reason being the way it works as you too said. It does so many things automatically and hence its bound to produce false positive as this behavior does look as a Virus or trojan for many of AV solution. Even though I didnt tested in on Virus total, I checked it with Kaspersky and it didnt raised a single red flag. :)

Also, The download does location is on rapidshare which makes it hard sometime to download. Even I downloaded the file from chip.eu but I didnt provided it in the post the reason being the official source should be trusted .

Hi Avinash,
Thanks for the info.
I have been in fact testing it in Virtual Machine with no side effects or anything so yep, seems it’s all a false positive, although I haven’t yet checked if there is any rogue information being sent via the application over my connection, once that is accomplished then I personally won’t have a problem using it. ;)

Avinash

I tested the downloads from both rapid share(from the officicial link) and chip.eu. My Norton AV 2010 said both had NetCat.exe in it. But i do know that NC.exe is detected as a hacktool by Symantec. More info about symantec’s detection of NC here http://www.governmentsecurity.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=18067.
It is a low risk infection. But frankly i think it is just a false positive and should work fine.
