Most of you must be aware of the fact that whenever you browse a webpage, it is being tracked by one or the other third party services like Digg, Facebook, Google, Twitter, Yahoo etc. This tracking is used for various purposes like advertising. Even though most of these third parties claim the data collection is non-personal and is done in way so that it cant identify you directly, its still a privacy concern for many of us. Today we will talk about a small but great Firefox addon Disconnect which can help you block these third parties from tracking your browsing history or habits.

Disconnect lets you:

  • Disable tracking by third parties like Digg, Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Yahoo, without requiring any setup or significantly degrading the usability of the web.
  • See how many resource requests are blocked, in real time.
  • Easily unblock services, by clicking the toolbar button then services (and reloading current pages) — e.g., so you can play games on Facebook.

After you install this addon, it blocks tracking by digg, facebook, google, twitter, yahoo etc whenever you open a webpage. You can just click on the “d” icon beside your address bar to see how many trackings have been blocked.

It looks quite effective if you are concerned about your privacy and dont want to share your browsing habits with these third party trackers.
