You may have noticed a bit of drop in my frequency of writing posts these days. The reason, I am a bit busy in fact too much busy with my family these days. Anyway, today I am going to talk about How to detect and find drivers for Unknown Hardware devices.

If somehow you have lost drivers of your hardware or you cannot identify what hardware is inside your system without a driver after a upgrade, its a tiresome job to identify the unknown hardware and hence to find the right driver for that component. Most of the time we are not able to identify the unknown hardware device and hence its driver too.

I had talked about few tools that can help in driver hardware identification like CPUZ, Speccy etc, but they do not provide a comprehensive list of hardware present. Unknown Device Identifier is a small tool which can help you here.

Unknown Device Identifier enables you to identify the yellow question mark labeled Unknown Devices in Device Manager. And reports you a detailed summary for the manufacturer name, OEM name, device type, device model and even the exact name of the unknown devices.

Features
– Identify USB 1.1/2.0/3.0 Device
– Identify IEEE 1394 Device
– Identify ISA Plug&Play Device
– Identify AGP Bus Device
– Identify PCI, PCI-E, eSATA Device
– Multilingual interface: English, French
– Find Drivers for Hardware Devices
– Save or Print Hardware information

It also provides you option to find drivers or go to Hardware vendor site directly or backup your existing drivers. Keep in mind it does not support backing up all your drivers in one go. Another annoying thing about this is a popup that comes everytime you want to close this program asking you to backup your drivers which point to its paid application.

Still this is a great utility and that too for Free which can help you detect unknown hardware devices and help you in finding the correct drivers though it uses Google search to find drivers.
