Looks like Gmail, the popular webmail service from Google is facing some serious outage problems. Gmail seems to be down and many users including me are getting a 500 Server error. The error page tells that its just a Temporary Error (500) and will get fixed on its own in few minutes.

Checkout the screenshot below for  the error that Gmail is giving:

There are many web services available to send SMS or text messages for Free. Popular email service Gmail too is now offering you this feature inside its web-mail and now you can send  SMS or text messages to almost anyone in the world. This new option of sending SMS was visible in my Gmail account just yesterday.

Chat option in your Gmail account is now changed to “Chat and SMS“. To send a SMS to any of your contacts, just hover your mouse to any contact and Click on More tab. There you can see the option of “Send SMS”.

Did you ever imagined your Gmail emails, Inbox to look and operate like the way Facebook stream is? Most of you would answer that to a big NO, which includes me.  Thanks to FLUENT, a start-up by trio of Ex-Googlers you can have your emails look and operate just like your Facebook stream. The service at the moment is invite only and you need to wait to get a invite as the  invites for the service are closed at the moment.

Google is again working on a brand new YouTube layout which is still to be rolled out to everyone officially. The new layout tries to arrange and manage the information much better compared to existing one. The left hand side column lists your channels along with the subscribed ones. It also lists Popular and trending tabs which pulls the popular and trending videos from YouTube. It also lists some recommended YouTube channels for you based on your interests.

Apart from the left column, the other two columns shows your subscription videos and recommended ones. The layout looks clean and it seems that it is based on the concept of integrating Google+ with YouTube which is almost a trend now with all Google Products.

Enable YouTube Brand new Layout

1. Open YouTube by typing http://www.youtube.com in your browser address bar.

2. Press Ctrl + Shift and J in Chrome to open the Developer Tools or Press Ctrl+Shift+K in Firefox.

3. Click on the “Console” Tab in chrome and enter the following.(For Firefox, there is no console tab available though. Just enter it)

document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU”;

4. Reload the website and enjoy the new layout.

Just like any other day, I logged in to my gmail account yesterday, to check my inbox and send a few mails. Noticing that some friends were online, I decided to have a small chat with them. But the chat pop-up did not allow me to place the cursor, and I couldn’t enter any text or click on any emoticon.

I logged in to my other Gmail accounts, and found that the gmail chatbox worked fine with them. This really baffled me, how can the chatbox work on one account and not in the other?

I got suspicious and checked the account activity details and did not find anything suspicious IPs. The only ones I found were from my PC and my Android phone.

I tried clearing the cookies and the cache. That did not help. So I realised the issue is not with Gmail. Something is preventing the chatbox from working in that account.

Eager to find a fix, I googled about it and found that I was not the only one who faced this problem. There was a thread at the google forums and a member had replied that “Updating the subscription (filters) for Adblock Plus would fix the issue”.

Would adblock prevent the chatbox from working in one account? There was only one way to find out. I use Fanboy’s filters with custom rules, I allow ads on some websites/blogs. I tried updating the Filter and presto, it fixed the issue.

Update:

Today I found another issue with gmail’s chat, I wasn’t able to use the arrow keys in the text box.I removed Fanboy’s list from Adblock and added the EasyList (English), updated the subscription and it fixed the issue. didn’t have to restart firefox or re-login to gmail.

Hope this helps some of you.
