Apple has released a public beta of Safari 4, it’s web browser built on the open source WebKit browser engine, for Windows and Mac OS X. The new release boost of many new features and better performance.
The boost in performance as per Apple comes due to a new JavaScript engine, the Nitro Engine, with which Safari executes JavaScript up to 30 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and more than 3 times faster than Firefox 3 based on performance in leading industry benchmark tests: iBench and SunSpider.
Top sites :- Another addition is the Top sites feature which you can find in latest versions of Opera browser. Thanks to Top Sites, you can enjoy a stunning, at-a-glance preview of your favourite websites without lifting a finger. Safari 4 Beta tracks the sites you browse and ranks your favourites, presenting up to 24 thumbnails on a single page. You can even customise the display by pinning a favourite site to a specific location in the grid. That locks it into position, so you know just where to find it every time you open Top Sites.

Cover Flow :- New to Safari, Cover Flow offers a highly visual way of reviewing your site history and bookmarked sites, presenting full-page previews of the websites that look exactly as they did when you last visited them.
The Graphical user interface blends much better with Windows Vista or XP compared with the previous version of Safari. The looks are changed and the blending with Windows GUI is much better and it may be one of the better things for a Windows user to use it as it doesn’t give a Mac look like in safari 3.
Full History Search :- With Full History Search and Cover Flow, what you see is where you went. Safari introduces a dramatic new way to revisit sites, letting you flip through full-page previews of the sites you visited in the past. You may not have total recall but Safari does, automatically storing all the text and a thumbnail of every page in your history. That makes it easy for Safari to get results even if you remember little about the site you’re searching for.

Tabs on Top : – The tab bar has been moved to the top of the window and combined with the title bar to save space, which will benefit notebook users with smaller screens. Top Sites allows for a simple, at-a-glance preview of a users favourite sites by displaying up to 24, clickable thumbnails, on a single page.
This tab feature may seem odd to some users including me as the placement of tab makes the user to move long distance almost half to full of the screen to close any tab as the tabs are are distributed over whole screen.
Phishing and Malware Protection :- Land on a suspicious website and you’ll know right away. Safari automatically alerts you and won’t open the page. EV Certificate support lets you easily spot legitimate sites.
Apart from these features , it also includes full history search feature ,Developer tools .
Overall the new browser seems to build to give a tough competition to IE7, Firefox and opera with these new features and boost in performance.Only the Tab feature may annoy some users.
The new beta is available for download now. More details and a full list of features can be found here.
